The Youth Pledge is the only major milestone in the history of the Indonesian independence movement.  This pledge is considered as a crystallization of the spirit to affirm the ideals of the founding of the Indonesian state.

  II Youth Congress Museum Building

Painting in Jakarta in 1985 to celebrate Youth Pledge Day

What is meant by "Youth Pledge" is the decision of the Second Youth Congress to be held for two days, 27-28 October 1928 in Batavia (now called Jakarta).  This decree stated the ideals of an "Indonesian homeland", "the Indonesian nation", and "the Indonesian language".  It is also hoped that this decision will become the basis for every "Indonesian national association" and that it should be "broadcast in various newspapers and read before meetings of associations".

  Javanese youth delegation (Jong Java)

The term "Youth Pledge" itself did not appear in the decision of the congress, but was given after it.  The following is the sound of the three decisions of the congress as stated on the inscription on the wall of the Youth Pledge Museum. The original manuscript was immortalized using Van Ophuijsen's spelling.

Biography

A. Definition of Biography Text

Biography is the story of a person's life that is more complex than just a curriculum vitae and work data.  Generally, biographies tell more about the feelings a person faces in dealing with an event or a person's life.

In the biography, it is explained about the life of a character from childhood until he grows up, even until he finally dies.  All services, works, and things produced by a character are also clarified.  The biographical text itself was composed not by myself.  Life history text types include Short life history and Long life history.

 B. Biography Text formula

A Biography Text generally uses the specific names of the people involved in a biography which is then written in the past tense.

A Biography text can also use words which are then related to time.  Biographies generally describe events, so use more action verbs.  A Biography Text itself consists of three parts:

 1. Orientation

Orientation provides the reader with background information on why the biography was written.  The opening paragraph should answer the questions: who, what, where, when, and how.

Usually contains narrated biodata such as full name and place and date of birth.  Some general information can also be presented in this section as an introduction to the characters.

 2. Events

At the eventa stage is the stage of an event or events experienced by the character.  Contains an explanation of a story in the form of problem solving, other processes, and various events that have been experienced by the character to lead him to a success.  The event itself is usually told in chronological order which refers to a certain time.

 3. Re-Orientation (Closing)

This section contains the author's views on the characters told.  Reorientation is optional so that the author can give his personal view of the characters being told.  Reorientation also consists of a type of conclusion with comments about contributions which are then summarized in an interesting conclusion or storyline.

 C. Example Sentences of Biography Text

 1. Example 1: Thomas Alva Edison

Thomas Alva Edison as Inventor who was born on February 11, 1847, in Milan, Ohio.  Thomas Edison was the youngest of seven children Samuel and Edison.  His father was an exiled political activist, while his mother was an accomplished school teacher and had a great influence on Thomas' early life.  Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor, his inventions include the telegraph, the phonograph, the first practical incandescent electric light bulb, alkaline storage batteries and the Kinetograph (camera for film).

During his lifetime, Edison received many patents.  His first patent was obtained from the Electrographic Vote-Recorder on October 13, 1868, at the age of 21. His last patent was for equipment used to hold objects during the electroplating process.  While the artificer wasn't the inventor of the first light bulb, he did find the technology that helped bring it back in time.

Edison was driven to perfect the commercially practical incandescent light bulb after the British inventor invented the first early electric arc lamp in the early 1800s.  Thomas Edison later died of complications from his illness on October 18, 1931, at his home, “Glenmont,” in West Orange, New Jersey.

descriptive text

Descriptive text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.

Structure Text (Generic Structure)

Descriptive text has its own rules in writing, including in the structure or composition of which must be written in order. If you are prompted to create descriptive text, then make sure the structure is as follows:

 1. Identification

This section in the first paragraph - the goal  is to identify something to be described or depicted. Explanation easy, Identification serves to introduce the reader about the object or something that we have described before we tell about its properties. The goal is not to get one of those readers.

 2. Description

This section in the second paragraph and so on - contains the properties inherent in something that you already introduced to the reader in the first paragraph.

Characteristics Descriptive Text
These characteristics are important for you to take into account when  writing the descriptive text is not wrong. So make sure you use the  following features when using the genre will write descriptive text :

   1. Using the Simple Present Tense.

Why use the simple present tense?  this is because we will describe a fact or truth that is attached to something or someone. And one of the functions of the simple present is to illustrate a fact or truth (eg fact: the sun is hot). Therefore, you should  always use the first form of the verb (verb-1). Your example will illustrate the properties of your new car: The color of my car is black, it can run up to 500 km / hour.
  2. Because of its function is to describe something by explaining its properties, then the text will be found many descriptive adjectives (adjective), as handsome, beautiful, tall, small, big, or if the adjective is derived from the verb, then you will find additional -ve, -ing, -nt in tow,
 3. In the descriptive text we will often find Relating verb (copula) which is (as in characteristic number 1). In Indonesian is often interpreted as "is". Because the purpose or function descriptive text is to describe, then definitely we will often find the word was (is). His name is Andy (his name was Andy), his height is 160 cm (height is 160 cm).
